Prayer for Hornlee!

"DEATH has climbed in through our windows and entered our fortresses It cut off our children from the streets and our young men from the Public Squares." (Jer 9:21)

Christians in Hornlee gathered at the Knysna Sr Sec school hall to pray for the community.

After a time of worship and spiritual challenge, representing OPTIONS, I shared the prayer needs for the young women facing crises related to unplanned pregnancy and HIV/AIDS.

Organized by Pastor Zuryha Donson (also a volunteer with Options), churches united to pray through 10 windows in the hall, each window representing one aspect of the sin that has entered the windows of the community.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12

The Mighty Men return...

When they left Friday morning they were our "Dutchies"... now they are "Mighty Men"

Greeted by a cross overlooking the venue, Nathan, Reggie (YFC staff) Ruben and Chris settled and put up their tent anticipating a weekend of spiritual challenge and encouragement.

Chris came back with new enthusiasm to "go for it", "whatever God wants of me."

Nathan came back excited to start an "Unashamedly Ethical" community in Knysna

Reggie was impressed by the truth that God is not so concerned with "what I do for God" as He is concerned with "who I am".

Easter Holidays in Knysna...

One thing I have learned from being a missionary in Africa... they know how to celebrate Easter. Good Friday through the Monday after Easter are national holidays. To top it off in South Africa, Freedom Day landed on Wednesday after Easter. Philip, YFC Centre Dir, closed the office from Thursday afternoon until the next Thursday morning... whoohoo!!

The phone rang with an unexpected call... Nathan's mommy (Lorraine - "Lolly") was coming to Knysna from Cape Town with her cousin for Easter!

Each day we packed a nice lunch, but the beaches were windy.

We didn't last long on the beach before migrating to the combi. But Barnabas was not going to leave the beach and protested with a "sit in", refusing to come.

Maike, Chris and Ruben (our German and Netherland volunteers mentioned last month) were feeling a bit of cabin fever, so a trip to the river was organized for a canoe ride... again the wind was too strong, so they opted to rent a small boat and motor up to the end. We enjoyed another nice picnic in the car while they had fun!

Wednesday we left Lolly at home to enjoy a peaceful day of reading while we took Maike to the Klein Karoo to explore the Cango Caves (the boys went last August) and all of them rode the ostriches this time. It has been very cold and night and sure enough there is snow on those mountains!

Nathan left with the boys and Reggie (YFC staff) at the crack of dawn Friday morning for the Mighty Men Conference, so I came home from the office early to keep Lolly company while she watched the "Royal Wedding". From 9am - 3pm we were glued to the TV... and I finished a stained glass window (using crayon shavings melted between wax paper) for her to take to commemorate her Easter with us.

Rejoice!!!

Christ is risen!

And that same power resides in us through the Holy Spirit!
