Wedding privilege

"We would like God's blessing on our marraige..."

Only last month Nathan baptized 2 Malawian young men in the Knysna Lagoon. They accepted Jesus as Saviour as a result of efforts by The Island Church Street Evangelism team. After traveling to his village in Malawi to share his new found relationship and fetch his wife Annie, Ephriam returned to Knysna with an excitement to start a church there. As Nathan spent time weekly walking a road of discipleship with Ephriam he learned that the wedding of Ephriam to his wife was performed in the traditional African manner. Thus the request to be married before the Lord.

God arranged for testimonies of a mission trip to Mozambique along with activities of our church members in a local informal settlement as a pre-cursor to the wedding of Ephriam and Annie last Sunday.

Asked to officiate, Nathan included the symbolism of weddings in Biblical times to Ephriam & Annie and Christ & His Bride (believers), we were challenged to think about Jesus love for us, and look forward to His return for the Bride of Christ.

A bit shorter than the week long (Biblical proportion) wedding celebration, we enjoyed a nice braai and fellowship with the couple for the afternoon.

No wedding is complete without a photo shoot... and the couple was excited to have such a nice view!

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that is should be holy and without blemish. -Ephesians 5:25-27

Volunteers

A house full of energy...

April has been a blur as Chris and Ruben from The Netherlands joined us for 3 months.

At Sinethemba the boys are busy helping kids catch up with missed school work, and playing soccer at Love Life while Maike is helping YFC at soup kitchens and using her artistic talent by making new training posters for me.

We work hard and play hard... time off is enjoyed most at the beach where it seems the boys are blessed with dolphin sightings and Maike misses them every time!

Last weekend we took them to the Storms River Mouth to marvel at God's creation.

As we share our home and our meals with young people serving the Lord with us, we are truly living the adventure of the Kings kids!

Family Connections - No Objections

As Camp Director, Nathan organized a group of facilitators from OPTIONS and Knysna Drug & Alcohol (KDAC) for the March Family camp in the Harkeville forest.

While waiting for the unfortunate families in a bus that broke down in transit, Nathan took advantage of an opportunity to have some fun. The goal was to move a large loop of string around the circle while holding hands.

Part of the day was spent in separate workshops. Parents learning about how to give their teens affirmation while teen boys and girls were split and discussing the influence of media in their lives.

Next, while the parents were learning about the 'tell tale signs' of drug/alcohol use and how to best intervene, the teens were playing soccer on the field debriefing with a gospel presentation.

For family "together" session the field was set up with 6 stations. Families rotated between each station to experience different aspects of teamwork through fun and laughter! Facilitators discussed the many skills that help a family stay together at the end of each game.

Concluding with an all-in tug of war, each side won one round!

After a delicious lunch the teens spent time with Mandisa from KDAC. She challenged them to find solutions to solve impossible problems rather than seeking to dull pain through drugs and alcohol.

The grand finale was a ice-breaker presented by the fathers followed by special awards to affirm an outstanding mother, father, son and daughter.

Closing with a family hug, ready to take on the world!
